Primate Sanctuary

Phil, Trey and I went to the Primate Sanctuary last Saturday afternoon to check out some of the animals.  It was mostly primates (duh), but did have some other animals, like alligators, turtles, goats, and exotic birds.

One of the big apes wanted to fight Phil.  Thank goodness there was a cage!  He was staring us down, so Phil started swaying back and forth, and jumped up and down and the ape immitated him.  They went back and forth for several minutes, rubbing bellies, patting heads, etc.  But then we tried to give him some of the "monkey food" we bought, and he got PO'd.  He started to throw things at us through the cage!  He had a sandwich in his cage and he kept ripping up the bread and chucking it at Phil.  He also got pretty aggressive with his noises, which kinda scared Trey, but totally cracked me and Phil up.   :)

Here are some highlights of our trip:

Lochte Lovin'

One of Trey's favorite before bed activities is lounging on our bed with Lochte.  They play and read stories.  And, there is usually some climbing on and jumping on, too.

Father's Day Festivities

Finally-- a father's day post!  Better late than never, right?

Phil is out fishing tonight and I actually have a little energy, so I decided to catch up on housework blogging.

We spent father's day at a BBQ/pool party with friends.

Phil's 2nd father's day was a big success.  As much as a "mama's boy" that Trey is, recently, he has really started to favor "da-da."  Seeing my boys play and cuddle together really melts my heart.   Crazy to think that this time next year we will have a 2.5 year old AND a 7 month old!

Liebster award

Happy (belated) father's day to all of the great dads out there. I was planning on doing a nice post my wonderful dad, father-in-law and hubby, but, as you can tell, that didn't happen...

Anyways, the reason for this post is, my friend, Courtney, over at Willis and We blog (http://willisandwe.blogspot.com/?m=1), has nominated my blog for a Liebster award. You can find more info about that on her blog.

Part of the rules are answering questions to help your followers get to know you. So here it goes...

1. Why do you blog?

I started my blog after moving to Florida to help me chronicle my life as a newlywed and keep my little sister, who was living in Africa and I rarely got to speak to, up to date with my life. I used it as a journal/scrapbook and creative outlet.

Now, it has become a site for friends and family far away to feel a little closer to us, and, to watch our little fellow grow and change.

I love being able to go back, look at pictures, and see how much our lives have changed in the past several years.

2. What is your most prized possession?

Hmm... My favorite (material) possession would have to be my DSL camera. I'm far from a professional but love to try and capture my toddler in action!

3. If there was a day in your life you could go back to, what would that day be?

I have several, but if I had to pick one, it would have to be my wedding day. It was so fun celebrating with friends and family, but it happened so fast it is kinda a blur to me. I'd love to go back and dance the night away (sans the broken foot, of course).

4. What celebrity would you love to have a night on the town with?

Tough one. She's not a huge celeb, but I've always loved Lauren Conrad. She's so fun. I'm sure we would be BFF's in no time.

5. What is your must have beauty product?

My beauty regimen is simple, but I am rarely seen in public without mascara.

6. Who inspires you in life?

My parents. They have had so much success in all areas of life- family, relationships, finance, work, faith. They have given me so much and hope one day our kids feel the same about us.

7. What's your go to recipe for a party?

Phil is grill master and will usually whip up some delicious meat dish. If its me, I'm all about easy dishes- dips, dips , dips!

8. Beer or wine?

White wine or light beer. Red wine is healthier, but always gives me the worst hangovers!

9. What store would send you into a deep depression if it were to ever close?

I'm not a huge shopper, but I would be totally lost without Target. They've got it all!

10. As Christina Yang is to Meredith Grey, who is 'your person'?

My older sister, Molly. While I love BOTH of my sisters very much, my older sister and I are in very similar phases of life and can relate on pretty much every level. We talk (almost) daily during our kiddo's nap times.

11. Life without _____ would not be worth living.

Thanks for the nomination, Court!! If you are looking for a new blog to follow, check her out!

Hot in heeerrre

Like the Nelly song, "it's gettin hot in here." we've been a full week with a broken A/C. It's summer in Florida. If you've ever been to Florida in summer, you will know, it's super-humid, want-to-stay-inside (or at the pool) kind of weather. A/C is not a luxury, its a necessity.

Our house has registered anywhere from 83-90 degrees (inside) for 6 straight days/nights. Do you feel sorry for us yet? You should! It's miserable! But, hopefully, we will have a new, energy efficient unit in by Tuesday.

I don't know how my sister lived in 100+ degree temps for two years while in Africa... One week has been more than enough for this family!

This is how we beat the heat after the children's museum.

Old McMickey had a Farm

Friday, I took the day off work and joined some of our friends in the mom's group on an educational two hour tour of Old McMickey's farm/petting zoo.

To say that Trey had a blast is an understatement. He fed and helped miilk a goat, caught a chicken, pet a pig, held a bunny, and rode a horse! He was quite a fan of farm life.

It was almost impossible to catch this on camera, as I was having to help him do all of those things, but thankfully my friend Kelly, who's boys didn't need help, was able to catch a few shots for me.
