Homeboy, Homeboy

Youtube is probably one of the greatest websites ever. Phil and I have wasted countless hours looking up funny videos. And we've found some good ones!

One of our new favorite videos is a real-life news clip about a break-in and attmepted rape.  Obviously, the situation is not at all funny.  However, the interview with the victim, and the victim's brother, Antoine Dodson, is HILARIOUS!!!  He is so animated you can't help but smile.

Apparently, his video was so popular, they turned it into a rap song which is played in nightclubs and sold on iTunes.  This story even has a happy ending... Antoine has earned enough money to move his family out of the projects.

So, in honor of this video, I'd like to introduce "Antoine Dogson."

The Lone Star State

It's offical.... Dallas sucks!  And not just because they are home of the Cowboys... it really sucks because it is now the (future) home of our BFF couple, Kerri and Ben, and our "nephew," baby Eli.

Although Phil and I've known this news for several weeks, we had to keep it on the DL since his promotion had not been announced to the rest of his staff at the hotel.  And, if anyone knows me, you know that secrets are just not my thing.  It is insanely HARD it is for me to keep a secret, especially from other close friends.  But, as of today, news of their move was made "facebook offical."  And, I'm very relieved that I no longer have to hide this secret from the rest of our friends.

But, now that it is "official," reality is sitting in. I'm going to miss our dear friends soo much.  I really don't want them to go.  Selfish, I know... but very honest.

Don't worry, this pity party is almost over.  Afterall, this is such great news for their family.

On that note, a BIG congrats to Ben on the new job.  I guess this gives us a reason to visit TX.  Especially when the Eagles are in town...

I put together a fun little slideshow of our times together over the past 3 years.  If you know them, you may want to check it out!

More Keys, Please!

We just returned from our 3rd annual trip down to the Key West!!!!!  Our first time down in the Keys was for our honeymoon back in 2008.  Last fall we made another trip down south, this time, with our favorite go-to couple, Ben and Kerri.  We had such an awesome in the little weekend get-a-way, we all agreed to make it an annual thing every fall.... And, it works out perfectly because Ben and Phil both have birthdays in November!

This year, our foursome turned into a sixsome with the addition of another couple: Carl and Cindy.  The six of us met up in Ft. Myers early Friday morning to catch the Key West Express, a huge ferry that takes you directly to the cruise port in KW.

Can I tell you how much we LOVED this thing?!?  It turned a 7 hour car ride into a 3 hour boat ride.  The full bar and big screen tv's didn't hurt, either...

When we arrived early Friday morning, we grabbed a quick bite to eat at the marina in Mallory Square.  Then, the boys headed over to the A&B Marina for a deep sea fishing charter (thanks, Mom Z) and the girls headed back to the free (yes, I said free) hotel for some R & R by the pool....

A few hours later, the fishing picture texts started flying in... all of the guys were very successful in their fishing excursion, but Phil ended up with the biggest catch of the day!

Anyone who has been to key west knows that it's not only GORGEOUS,

but also has some crazy fun nightlife on Duval Street (think New Orleans in the tropics).

So, pretty much Friday night, all day Saturday and Sunday were dedicated to over indulging in food and adult beverages, mixed in with a litle shopping and site seeing.  Yay for the southernmost point!

That's about it.  Another year, another successful trip.  Photo album coming soon. :)

Free Agents

Well, you can pretty much ignore my last post.  We had every intention on joining the masters swim team last week, but, as of today, we are still "free agents."

Long story short: We showed up to practice.  The pool manager working the front desk said that we would be required to buy a recreation pass on top of our monthly club fees if we wanted to use the facility.  No big deal... well, a rec pass is only $15/year for Clearwater residents.  However, for TAMPA residents, such as ourselves, it would be $400/yr!  Not including the $50/month/person for our club membership.  Basically, it would cost around $1600/year + Masters fees + meet fees + annual club fees (not included in our monthly fee).  The costs just kept adding up, and it ends up being a little too much for us to pay on top of our monthly gym memberships.  Especially considering other teams we've looked at are only around $35/month/person with fewer "extra" charges.

I digress....Anyways, I decided to email the coach, who had specifically told me via email that we were NOT required to buy a rec card, to let him know what we were told by the pool manager.  He disagreed with the pool manager and asked ME to call the city of Clearwater Parks and Recreation to find further clarification.

He gave me a contact person and I called...

and called....

and called...

Eight days, and five phone calls/messages later, still no response.  LAZY GOVERMENT WORKERS, geez!  (No offense, just stating a sterotype, which, in this case, appears to be true).

So, moral of the story.  We remain free agents and have not signed with any team, yet.

Masters

Awhile back I mentioned that Phil and I were ready to join a Masters swim team.  We spent a long time looking for the perfect team (with limited success).  We met with several coaches, saw a few facilities and I bombarded all the teams in Tampa with email inquiries.  No luck.  I was about to give up, but finally gave in and said we could try out the team in Clearwater (across the bay from our house).

I was kinda dreading battling the mass amount of cars on the road in rush-hour traffic.  I thought it could take me up to an hour to get there, and who wants to spend that kinda time in the car AFTER a long day at work? Not this girl.  But, I was pleasantly surprised when it took me... 25 minutes!!!!  Half of the "close" teams in Tampa took me 30+ minutes, so I was THRILLED with 25!!!  I used to do that everyday (sometimes twice a day) in high school.

I am not only about the thrilled about the proximity, but the facility is amazing!  It's HUGE.  And, not in the ghetto like several of the others, which is quite a relief.

The coach was super friendly and the team seemed very social, and COMPETITIVE!!! Everyone at practice was around our age.  No grannies in my lane!  With 46 members on their team, I'm sure we can put together a decent relay or two! :)

And, they offer 10 practices a week, so I REALLY have no excuse for not fitting at least 3-5 into my weekly routine.  We tried out a few practices as visitors, but plan on returning tonight as official members of CAT Masters (Clearwater Aquatic Team)!!!

Okay, got to go to practice. Never thought I'd be saying that again...

DOC-tober

October= Baseball playoffs.

The Phillies had a very exciting start to post-season play against the Reds yestersay.   Phillies' pitcher, Roy "Doc" Halladay started them off with a no-hitter in his playoff debut!!!!  That marks only the second no-hitter in playoff history.

GOOO PHILLIES!!!!  Also, GO Rays!! Gotta support our local boys... plus, I'm really hoping for another Phillies vs. Rays world series so we can go again! :)

CUPCAKES

Nothin' says fall like pumpkin cupcake balls!  My friend brought these to a potluck and I thought they were SO cute! She lead me to the website where she found the recipe, which I then copied and re-posted (I'm not quite sure if that's really legal, so please don't turn me in!) Anyways, thank's Miss Bliss for your cute idea!

Holiday Season

October is here!  And, apparently, October is the start of the entire holiday season.  It seems to gets earlier and earlier every year.  I went into a store the other day and saw (gasp) CHRISTMAS decorations being displayed!!!!!  WHAT?  The start of fall was just LAST WEEK and you want me to start thinking about Christmas already???

Why can't we just enjoy the fall?  I personally don't want to skip right to Christmas. Yes, I am very much looking forward to a wonderful Christmas at home with a ton of friends and family (including my sister living in Africa and my new niece, Allison).  But I am also looking forward to a very fun Halloween with my best friend in Indianapolis, and hosting my in-laws, brother-in-law and niece at Thanksgiving (although I won't be doing much of the cooking, as I'm scheduled to work all day...).

I guess I just don't understand why one holiday monopolizes 3 months of the year.  Okay, end rant.

Anyways, it IS almost Halloween, so I have been busy brainstorming some costume ideas for me and my friends... who says Halloween is just for kids?  I LOVE everything about Halloween.  Candy, costumes, scary movies, haunted houses, ghosts stories.  ALL of it.  If I could, I would still go trick-or-treating around my neighborhood, pumpkin pale in hand.  Phil, however, does not like Halloween (at least, not unless he's at OU).  Knowing this, my friends Dan, Joey and Brandon volunteered to take me to Orlando for Halloween Horror Nights at Universal Studios tonight so I could get my scary fix for the year!!  Looking forward to being scared silly!  Happy Halloween season, everyone!
