Saturday was the big football game.  OU vs. THE Ohio State.  Unfortunately for my alma mater, the only thing BIG about the game, was their loss.  The buckeyes completely dominated them (as expected), winning 43-7.  Ouch.

However, we did win one match-up during Saturday's game.

As Ohio State made its usual entrance onto the field, an intruder ran out and tackled Ohio State's mascot, Brutus Buckeye...twice.

That intruder, was none other than Rufus the Bobcat.

There is some debate on whether or not it was planned.  Some people think it was a premeditated attack designed to throw the Buckeyes off their game...I think he was just looking for his 15 minutes of fame.

Regardless, Rufus surely made his presence at the game known... and felt (especially when he punched Brutus Buckeye in the ... er, towel).  It didn't take security too long to break it up and escort the bobcat off of the field.

Ohio issued a formal apology to Ohio State in connection with this incident:
"We apologize to Ohio State University and its many loyal fans for the poor decision made by the Bobcat mascot in tackling the Buckeye mascot when Ohio State came onto the field during Saturday’s football game. The individual responsible for these actions has been banned from any further affiliation with Ohio Athletics. The department does not condone this behavior and apologizes for the negative effects that this had on an intercollegiate event between two proud institutions. This is not indicative of the quality partnership between the universities and reflected extremely poor judgment and sportsmanship.”

Although it was in poor taste, I can't help but find the stunt midly amusing.  And, I really don't think OSU fans can't be too mad....  After all, they still won the game by 40 points, and thanks to some fast-acting security men, Brutus was not seriously injured.
