DIY Christmas Ideas

Phil and I made our own presents this year and I was sooo pleased with how they turned out!

The idea came when I was looking online for personalized gift ideas...  I ran across these really cute Etsy blocks with pictures on them.  Since Phil is a handy woodworker, and I am fairly crafty, it was really very easy to pull off!

First, I had Phil cut a 2x4 block of wood into sections that are approximately 3.5 by 3.5 inches and sanded them down.

Then, I painted all sides of the blocks and let them dry overnight.  I chose a dark grey/black for these although the options are endless.  The website even featured some that used scrapbook paper instead of paint.

Next, was the hardest part.  Find the pictures you want to use, edit them in a software program, print, and crop into 3.5 x 3.5 squares.

Use a foam brush to apply thin layer of ModgePodge to the block, and press down picture firmly, getting rid of any air bubbles.

Once the pictures have dried, you can attatch vinyl lettering.  I ordered my letters from Words Anywhere.  They offer a million different font choices and you can mix and match as much as you want, change the color, etc.  I used white letters to stick with my black/white theme, but again, the options are endless.

Finally, if you would like you can add antiquing around the edges of the pictures with dark ink.  I chose NOT to do this, because my pictures were already fairly dark to begin with.

I ended up making 5 copies of these blocks in just a few hours.  GREAT present idea for family and friends!  Have fun crafting!

Baby Gaga

I love my baby gaga!!!  Or "Double A" (Allison Ann), as my dad calls her.  Yes, she MAY be a chunk-- wearing 9-12 month clothes at just 5 months-- but at least she's a stylish chunk.

Tis' the Season

Wednesday morning the ladies and I headed to Nonesuch, Kentucky (yes, that is the real name) for brunch at the Glitz! The Glitz is an old schoolhouse that was turned into an antique store/restaurant.  For the Christmas holiday, they decorate each room with a different theme. The only thing that is the same is that each one contains TONS of holiday stuff, lights, garland, trees, ornaments.  To quote my cousin, "it looks like Christmas threw up in here!."  I think that is a good thing?!?

Papa's 90th Birthday

People came to KY from the north (Conneticut), the south (Florida), the east (D.C.) and the west (Texas, California), and even someone from Africa...  all to celebrate my Papa's 90th birthday!

There were 23.5 people total.  Almost everyone from my mom's side of the family was there.  Baby Edward, Lori and David opted not to come... understandably so.  My cousin Janet couldn't make it either, thanks to school and a work obligations.  Cousin David was recovering from surgery and Phil had to work.

Here is the group (minus the above people, and Chad+Allison, who went home for bed, and cousin, Chris H., who was taking picture 1, Chris J., who was taking picture 2....)

Molly got a new camera as an early Christmas present from Chad... a Cannon Rebel.  It is AWESOME!!!  We don't know how to work all the settings but we had a lot of fun playing with it.  And, we got some really great pictures of the fam!  Be sure to check out the Photo Album!!

Edward x 2

Our not-so-little family has grown even more!  My cousin, Lori, gave birth to healthy, and not-so-little baby boy, Edward, this past Monday.  He is so cute, and arrived just in time for the holidays!!

Speaking of Edward... my Papa (who is also named Edward) will be turning the big 9-0 on Sunday.  And to celebrate his 90th year, 90% of my mom's family (myself included), will be gathering in Frankfort for a big birthday party.

Lori and her husband, David, aren't sure if they are coming yet.   They are trying to make it down for the family reunion... they really want to be there, but we'll just have to wait and see if they actually crazy enough to travel across the country with a newborn!  :)

Siesta Key Beach

Welcome to the Beach.  It was kinda nice to have the WHOLE place to ourselves... a little cold weather and this place turns into the desert!

Who says white girls can't jump???   We certainly did!  Maybe not gracefully, but we did!

I saw Megan kissing Santa Claus...

So-Ho-Ho Girls' Holiday Weekend Extravaganza

My lady loves were in town this weekend!  They were looking for a little sunny vacation (it was 9 degrees in Indy when Megan left on Friday)... but unfortunately, mother nature did not cooperate.  Like the rest of the country, we also got hit with a "cold front."  Not 9 degrees cold-- but certainly not the 70-80's we have had most of the fall... it was in the 60's with wind, which probably feels like 9 degrees to a true Floridian.  Turns out the sunshine state was not very sunny at all.  BUT, the cold weather certainly didn't stop us from having a good time!!

Friday we headed out to So-Ho, for a night on the town south Tampa style.  Starting with my FAVORITE Tapas resturaunt, Ceviche, followed by drinks and dancing at McDittons!   Great night out with my best friends, and BOTH of my husbands!

Be prepared to be bombarded with pictures...
